It was beautiful this weekend. Erin snapped a few pictures of me hanging out in the yard. Today, Erin heard from someone on the shelter medical staff that I've been really good in the kennel. Once I see someone coming up to me, I drop my kong (which is always in my mouth cause it makes me feel better) and I run up to greet them. I learned that if I don't have a toy in my mouth, I get more treats! I'm catching on!

Sunday, March 21 - Eddie Gets a Lesson on Walking
So, its almost April and I'm still stuck at the shelter. I don't know what I would do with myself if the kennel staff and shelter employees didn't let me have my kong in my kennel. Its so stressful. I hate hearing the other dogs constantly bark. Its scary, loud, and uncomfortable. I'm now getting stressed around other dogs and am having a hard time focusing on Erin while she practices commands with me. I can't wait to get out of here and into a foster home or forever home. I know I'll be more comfortable there and way happier.
Since Erin failed miserably trying to put the Gentle Leader on me (its a harness that goes around my snout that teaches me not to pull on walks) today she decided to try the Easy Walker instead. I didn't mind that one at all, it was actually pretty comfortable. We walked around the yard outside of the shelter and I barely pulled at all. When I did pull, the harness redirected me to face her. I caught on that if I walk at the same pace as her, it wouldn't spin me around. After practicing walking and 'heeling' for a while, we went inside so Erin could snap some pictures of me. She began teaching me 'touch', 'here', and 'watch me'. I also showed Erin a trick that she didn't know that I knew.. 'roll over'! I impressed her! Muhahaha! Now she wonders what else I have up my sleeve. When we were done, she filled my kong with peanut butter and treats and I snuggled back into my bed.
Here are a couple pictures of me wearing my Easy Walker:

Tuesday, March 16 - Eddie is loving this weather!
Erin came by on Tuesday. It was so nice out we spent the whole time outside. I mostly just sat infront of her and chewed on a tennis ball while she scratched my back. We didn't take any pictures - just sat and enjoyed the fresh air!

Sunday, March 14 - Eddie's Day Out!
Today was awesome! Erin came and scooped me out of my kennel. We went outside for what I thought was a walk, but she brought me over to the car instead and I took it upon myself to hop right in the trunk! I had no idea where we were going, but I didn't care. She gave me a bully stick to chew on so I just laid down and enjoyed the ride. When we parked, we got out and walked down the street to this new building. When we got inside I couldn't believe my eyes! There were toys everywhere and a huge open space for me to run around all I wanted (OFF-LEASH)!!
I played with all of the new toys, my favorite was the donut shaped one. I held on to that most of the day (Erin said she is going to buy me my very own). Then another Pen Pal dog, Carl came! We ran back and forth with each other until we were tired. He's a cool guy. Here's a video of us!
Then a couple other dogs came, I said Hi to them and also showed off my tricks. I now know "sit", "paw", "down" and I'm getting really good at trading my toys for treats or other toys. I also took all of my treats very nicely! Erin was proud of me. After a while, we had to make room for another dog so he could have some play time. We got back in the car and I just looked out the window the whole ride. I was pooped. Erin kept saying how good I was! When I got back, Erin got me a peanut butter kong and I laid down for a nap. Today was the best day ever!

Sunday, March 7 - A Beautiful Day at ACCT!
The weather was so nice this weekend! Erin came in on Sunday and we spent some time out in the yard. We went for a walk around the shelter grounds. I pulled a lot so she said this week we will start working with a Gentle Leader so I can learn to walk nicely.
After that, we just hung out in an outside run. There were about 6 tennis balls so Erin and I practiced what she called "trade". The idea behind it was that if I dropped the ball I was currently playing with, she would give me another one. I don't think the second ball was any better than the first, but I was interested so I played along. She had me sit, give her paw, then said "trade" and gave me a new ball to play with. I still need to learn to take things nicely though. We did this for about a half hour. She said we will eventually work on "drop it" and "leave it".
After that, we just sat around and enjoyed the weather. It was nice to just relax and be able to lay in the sun! See:

Wednesday, March 3 - Eddie Learns "Down"!
Today, Erin came and woke me up from a nap again. We went outside so I could do my business, then went right back inside because it was raining. Erin taught me something new today! "Down"! It wasn't that hard, I don't think. She made me sit, then brought the treat to the ground and slowly pulled it away from me, and I just did it! She was happy so that made me happy! We did it a bunch more times, sometimes I forgot to put my butt down, but she let it slide.
Erin found a whole box of tennis balls! WIN! She gave me one, then another, then another and before I knew it I had way too many and I wasn't sure which to play with! I picked my favorite, laid down and chewed on it. I had to switch it up a couple times though.
After playing for a solid hour, I was pooped. Erin got me a frozen treat for my kennel and we called it a night! P.S. We figured out I probably shouldn't live with cats because I will chase them way too much. Ideally, I should be an only pet but could probably live with a laid back female dog who won't mind me NOT sharing toys with her. ;-)
See!

Monday, March 1 - Eddie Gets Some Quiet Time to Relax
Today, Erin came to the shelter and woke me up from a nap. We went outside so I could go to the bathroom. I think she "Eddie-proofed" the outside run because all the toys were put away and I HAD to focus on her! It was fine though cause she gave me tons of yummy treats. We practiced "sit" and "paw", which I already knew but Erin also taught me how to take treats out of her hand nicely.
After a while, we got cold and went inside. She brought me into a quiet office where we practiced more commands. She said I got progressively better! When we were done practicing, I explored the room a bit and found a tennis ball in the corner! WIN! She didn't seem to mind that I found a toy to play with. She laid a blanket down and sat down. I brought the ball over to show her then laid down next to her to take a load off. It was nice, we just sat in the quiet for about 20 minutes while she petted my head.
When it was time to go back to the kennels, Erin got me a yummy frozen treat to gnaw on before I went to bed. It was a good night! Goodnight!
