December 27, 2009 - Peety works on his leash skills!

Today I started working on my leash walking skills. On a slip lead, I can pull quite a bit so I got to wear some weird training collar that went around my nose. I didn't like it at first, but I got used to it. Since I was walking so well on it, I got to leave the shelter and walk up and down Hunting Park Ave! I walked next to Erin the whole time. When we got to the street corner, I sat until it was time to cross the street. It was a nice break from my kennel. Next weekend, Erin promised to bring me to Boathouse Row!

December 26, 2009 - Almost New Years and Peety is still stuck in the shelter!

Yesterday was some special day that people kept calling "Christmas". All of us dogs at the shelter were given extra bones and toys and kongs by a bunch of volunteers who came in. It was pretty awesome.

Today, Erin came in and took me for a walk. I still remembered "paw" and kept offering mine to her so she would give me treats. Next week will be the new year, meaning I have spent the last quarter of 2009 stuck in the shelter. More dogs have come and gone in the past week, but I'm still here. I really hope someone will come in to foster or adopt me. Whoever decides to bring me home will not be disappointed!!

Email Erin at erin.pawsadoptions@gmail.com or come down any day between 9am and 6pm. 111 W. Hunting Park Ave. Philadelphia, PA

December 22, 2009 - The day PEETY learned "paw" and met a cat!

I still don't know if I like snow. Its too cold on my feet. I did my business and we went back inside. Erin and I practiced "paw" a whole bunch of times. At first, it was just me sitting and her picking up my paw, but then I GOT IT! She said "paw?" and I gave it to her and I got extra treats! Pretty easy if you ask me! She tried to take pictures of me giving "paw", but she said it was pretty tricky.

So then, we sat down and relaxed for a while. Then I got to meet the cats at the shelter! I was really, really interested in them, especially the ones that made noise. I wasn't agressive at all, just interested. I could probably live with laid back kitties as long as we have a slow introduction.

December 20, 2009 - PEETY's Snow Day!

Yesterday it snowed about 20" in Philly, which means Snow Day at the shelter! I got to run and play in the snow for a while.

I hammed it up and sat for a whole bunch of treats! Then, it was time to go back inside because my feets were cold.

Luckily, I didn't have to go back in my kennel for a while. Erin brought me into the office and I practiced "sit" a whole bunch of times! She also tried to teach me "paw". I think I'm getting the hang of it, but whatever. I ate tons of turkey apple treats (I think she's trying to fatten me up)!

Then it was cuddle time! She let me sit on her lap for a while until I fell asleep. Eventually, I had to go back to my kennel. I got a fresh blanket and a kong full of peanut butter. All in all, I'd say it was a good day!

December 20, 2009 -- Meet PEETY!

An introduction -- Hi, my name is Peety and I'm a skinny 1-2 year old pit bull mix who was found as a stray in North Philadelphia. In the first week of September, 2009 I was brought to the Animal Care and Control shelter. I'm underweight, but sweet and aim to please. After spending over 3 months in a public shelter, I have remained healthy and sane which is no easy feat for a dog in such a stressful environment. Day in and day out, I watch dogs come and go. Some are adopted, some go to foster homes, but I just wait. I have been evaluated as highly adoptable. I'm gentle and energenic. I don't like to jump, I know "sit" and I love to cuddle. I seem to like other dogs, but have not been evaluated with cats yet.

Beginning this weekend, Erin took me on as her "Pen Pal" dog. Going forward she will be working with me to learn basic commands. She will be taking me out for walks and hikes to give me a break from the stress of the shelter. And I hope she can help me find the forever home I certainly deserve.

You can find me at ACCT. 111 W. Hunting Park Ave. in Philadelphia. If you are interested in meeting me, please contact Erin at erin.pawsadoptions@gmail.com
